Spring has arrived and as well as seeing more sun, you also see more invitations to parties, special events and weddings. You always like to look your best when attending special events, but the reality is that real change in your skin takes months of diligence in using great products, having regular facial treatments and caring for yourself. However there are lots of things to help you survive the Party Season ahead with the best feeling and looking skin ever!
Prepare and be organised
I know it’s a pain, except for you OCD people out there, but the busier you are the less room there is for flexibility, spontaneity and always looking good. Look at your calendar, think about outfits and shoes – do you need to shop? If so, make time now. Whilst you are browsing for clothes, be aware of top ups you may need in makeup, fake tan, razors and nail polish. All those ancillary appointments such as manicures and pedicures, hair-cut and colour, spray tans, brows and lashes; book them now so you get the times that suit you!
Now is a great time to enjoy an exfoliating, nourishing clinical facial.
If you’ve never had your skin really analysed take an hour and let professional trained staff develop a skin care program for you ready for the New Year. You’ll be more radiant now as well as planning for next year – and all the years after! Medically orientated aesthetic clinics have such staff and the expertise. If you haven’t enough time for this I am ready to answer your questions and develop a at home program for you via our on-line skin consultation. We’ve created a special events skin prep’ guideline so ready more in this link.

Nutrition is a great start to Look your best
On you way home visit the supermarket and stock up on healthy food to avoid last minute easy unprocessed meals. Eating well – lots of greens, and avoiding stimulants such as coffee, black tea and alcohol. It is tempting to reach for the G & T or wine or the extra coffee but think – survival and gorgeous skin and have a soda water with lemon or herbal tea instead. Increasing your water intake during busy times as well as in the heat is an essential part of caring for your body, not just your skin.
Stressed out? Settle your lifestyle: understand your stress impacts your skin.
Your skin needs time to rest, recuperate and heal every day and the tougher the day the more helps it needs!
Practice your deep breathing. Research has shown that just taking three deep slow breaths changes not just how you feel but how your body responds with stress and being busy = being stressed! Sleep is vital however the next 4 weeks for many sees us burning the candle at both ends so try power naps, meditate and enjoy a massage; total body or incorporate it into that facial I discussed above.
Ease back at the gym
You have enough pressure on you without adding extra physical work. If you don’t regularly exercise, find time for a daily walk to add extra nourishment and oxygen to your skin.
Add some supplements
If your life is very stressful incorporating a set of good quality Super Foods during the festive season will help your energy, your clarity as well as your skin. Try our Miessence Vitality Pack. Prepare for January with a tub of FAST.
Home de-stress strategies
Have an evening at home!!! Run a bath, add some (toxic free) calming salts, light some candles and play your favourite quiet music.
Skin Essentials To Look your best
Cleanser and weekly mask: one based on lactic acid will heal, exfoliate, stimulate, nourish and increase blood flow. The time to do this is during your weekly destressing bath. If you do, heaven forbid, have a pimple erupt dab a spot of mask on it overnight.
There are masks for all skin types and ages. The secret behind a good one is for it not to be a scrub which harms the skin and it should have hydrating, plumping abilities. A lovely pressie for someone.
Vitamin C and B serum twice daily will brighten, lighten and heal. If it also contains vitamin E, the vitamin C and B will work more efficiently. Want just one product? The Osmosis MD Replenish is just that.
An eye cream to blow away the dark circles, puffiness and fine lines. Use it morning and night during these frantic few weeks. My favorite (more mature in the under eye dept) is the osmosis MD Refresh and the Cosmedix Opti-crystals though if you are already using a Vitamin A, the new CosMedix Elite Eye Doctor is the Rolls Royce! Under 40? The CosMiedix Eye Genius is a great product.
Vitamin A serum I hear you ask? Usually vitamin A is an essential part of a great skin care regime, however not in times of stress. Leave it out until after the New Year.
UV Protection; stock up for the whole family. Look for those that reflect off the UV rays creating a physical barrier on your skin rather than adding more chemicals to your body. Are you aware that chemicals from sunscreens have been found in people’s livers 3 days after they were applied to the skin? Our poor livers have enough to do – give yours a little rest.
We have a surprising number of age-defying UV protectants products for you and your family. UV A is the single most ageing and skin cell damaging factor so even if ageing doesn’t concern you, skin health should. Have a peruse through our page, with creams, sprays , lip balms (SPF35), tinted moisturisers (SPF50), mineral makeup brushes and so much more. All to make your life easier! Some great pressies in there too. My fave? The Sunforgettable mineral makeup powder brush.
If you are planning to use last year’s UV protection – don’t. Like everything, in time the effectiveness wears off. You don’t know how long the product was on the shelf before you bought it and it’s just not worth it! That’s why shops have SPF sales after summer!
And Lastly to Look your best
After–sun Care
Find yourself a little red from wind, sun and life? Sometimes it happens no matter how vigilant we are. I can’t recommend enough the Sunforgettable Setting mist. I know – its setting mist – but it is primarily soothing and healing in that immediate after sun period. It is great and well worth hiding in your beach bag! Mist a few times in the days after, avoid anything other than a light makeup, apply Vitamin C and B (Replenish is perfect) moisturise and drink more water. Wear more sunblock J.
Enjoy everything about the fun spring party season and lead up to Christmas
