Meg’s Vitamin A Review
“Vitamin A is something that I have not always been completely consistent with as my skin is quite reactive to it, but I have just found one that I absolutely love and can use every single night without any irritation.
CosMedix Elite X-Age
CosMedix Elite is the best of the best in cosmeceutical skincare and I have recently started using all CosMedix products exclusively, as well as having monthly CosMedix in-clinic treatments.
What it is:
An age-defying moisturiser loaded with antioxidants and hydrating ingredients to improve the skin’s appearance and reduce the visible signs of ageing, including fine lines and wrinkles.
The Benefits:
- Conditioning moisturisers help attract and retain vital moisture in the skin.
- Helps to even skin tone by reducing the look of acne scars, dark spots and hyper-pigmentation
- Free radical-fighting antioxidants that defend skin from environmental stress that can cause inflammation and damage to collagen and elastin.
- Improved texture and proper product absorption is due to exfoliation. When the surface layer of the skin is removed, fresh skin is revealed and can absorb active ingredients easier.
- AGP Complex – an AGP Retinol Complex for oily, congested and blemish-prone skin. It encourages skin renewal to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and imperfections.
How it feels:
The way that it feels is what I really love about this product. It is silky smooth and feels super moisturising. It is expensive, but when you apply it, you can feel that it is worth it.
How to use:
My nightly routine is to cleanse with CosMedix Purity Clean (my new favourite cleanser) followed by CosMedix Purity Solution toner (great for helping out my enlarged pores). I apply CosMedix Elite Pepoxide (to help with fine lines) then I apply two pumps of Cosmedix Elite X-Age which I massage in until it is completely absorbed. I follow up with CosMedix Elite Eye Doctor (the BEST eye cream in the whole wide world).
The Verdict:
So far, this is the best vitamin A that I have ever used. Not only does it feel amazing, but I love how it has plumped and smoothed my skin. The addition of Eye Doctor, which also contains Vitamin A, has just added a freshness to my under eye area that I haven’t had for a very long time!
The only little downside to the CosMedix Elite products is that you have to call our clinic to purchase them over the phone. This is due to their potent nature, which really makes the range much more prescriptive based. Having said that, a quick phone call to us means that you can also get some expert advice!”

Julie’s Vitamin A Review
“I think if I were unable to use a Vitamin A, I’d be in trouble, things would not be good. Because I’m in the ‘ageing skin’ category, they are an absolute godsend for me. In past reviews I have mentioned my love for a couple of the Osmosis MD A’s, Calm and Correct and, until just a few weeks ago, was diligently using Correct. I guess you get to a certain point where you want to see improvement in your skin again, like you did in the initial stages of using a medical grade skincare product, and not just be maintaining the status quo, plus, I’m pretty sure some of that squishy sagginess was returning, but maybe that was my imagination?
Anyway, I decided to up the anti with my A’s and try the strongest we have in store, CosMedix Elite Refine RX. I was excited!
Initially after using it for three or four nights in a row, I actually thought it was way too powerful, as I felt a little sore and red around my nose, and my skin was a little flaky, particularly around the hairline. Dam! I was disappointed with my usually tough as leather skin. After backing off, and only using it every third night, then every two, my skin then obviously thought, hell yeah! I can handle this now, and presently is quite happy with me applying it every night.
The texture is slowly improving. It’s taken the ‘squish’ out again, I mustn’t have imagined it.:)
I will probably go back to one of the Osmosis MD A’s eventually, they are kind of like an addiction, once you’ve tried them, but at least I know the CosMedix Elite Refine RX is an alternative to boost my regime occasionally, just to defy that annoying thing called gravity.”

Phillipa’s Vitamin A Review
“I’ve made a special effort this time to trial something completely new. I’ve considered our entire range of Vitamin A and decided to go with the Medik8 range. What really intrigued me to begin with was the huge variety of options allowing you to tailor your product to your individual skin.
As I’ve been using CosMedix Serum 16 up until this point (a gentle Vitamin A), I decided to go up a level, with Medik8 Crystal Retinol 6. The labels for the Medik8 Vitamin A actually comes from the percentage of retinol in the product. So, in this case, it’s 0.06% stabilised retinal. This serum is perfect for those who have used retinol products before and ready to step up without going “all out”. Keeping in mind that more isn’t always better with Vitamin A. It’s actually finding the right type, strength and delivery system for your skin.
The Medik8 Crystal Retinol range also features hyaluronic acid and vitamin E.
Hydrating your skin to give you a supple and even-toned complexion. More than that, as it uses retinaldehyde as it’s Vitamin A, it actively reduces blemish-causing bacteria to keep your skin clear and balanced.
The key to Medik8’s Vitamin A range is their time release technology. Delivering the Vitamin A in small doses throughout the night, literally drip feeding your skin. This stops your skin from being overwhelmed and avoids irritation. They’ve achieved this by encasing the retinaldehyde in a crystal exterior that is slowly broken down by enzymes into your skin (this is a ‘patent pending’ delivery system).
Okay, I’ve gotten a bit deep there, but let’s just say that I did my research and liked what I found…
To be honest, within two weeks my skin was baby smooth. Like, literally so smooth I questioned when I last exfoliated. I haven’t noticed a change in my pigmentation, but my chin was getting thick rough skin with hormonal acne popping up, and poof, it was gone. The serum is a thick orange cream and glides on very easily. I have no trouble covering my whole face with one pump. It has a gentle smell (can’t describe sorry, but not offensive at all) and isn’t greasy or oily. I feel like it’s absorbed in just a few seconds, without feeling dry. It was a bit tingly the first few times I used it but that went by the end of the first week. I’m honestly in love with both the product and the packaging.
If you’re wondering where to start with Medik8’s Vitamin A then either the Medik8 Crystal Retinol 3 or Retinol 3TR+ Intense are a great place to start – unless you have sensitive skin, then try Crystal Retinol 1. Of course, those of you that are pregnant, breastfeeding or have serious medical conditions should avoid Vitamin A and use Medik8’s Bakuchiol Peptides Retinol Alternative Serum instead.
Gosh, I feel like a saleswoman with this spiel, sorry! Just excited by what I’ve found and experienced is all!!!”

Meagan’s Vitamin A Review
“I’m frequently asked, if you could only buy one product, what would it be? I always reply, well you need two, you must have a cleanser, but Retinol is the one ingredient I believe every person needs in their skin care regime. A cleanser will ensure all pores are clear and your skin is ready for the next product you’re about to apply (so important, otherwise why apply these amazing serums if they can’t even absorb into the skin).
Retinol is an amazing part of your skin care regime, as it stimulates collagen production, normalises oil, hydrates and helps the your skin Glow!
You’ll notice your skin feeling firmer, it even helps re-build thin skin. Hands down the best product out there! My favourite is Osmosis Calm. Although designed for a sensitive skin, don’t be fooled by the name it still packs a powerful punch. It contains Retinaldehyde which is a slow release, so you don’t need to worry about red, flaky irritated skin. It’s absorbing into your skin and doing its work in the lower levels, rather than sitting on top and just causing irritation.
I honestly wouldn’t be without my Vitamin A serum. And if in the rare situation I am, my skin definitely lets me know about it!”
