Treating Pigmentation

Treating Pigmentation Banner

Pigmentation is a common problem faced by many people, and it can occur in different forms, but typically, uneven tone to the skin, sun spots, freckles and melasma. It can be caused by various factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, ageing, and genetics and can affect self-esteem and confidence. Treating pigmentation can be challenging, but we can recommend some great products and treatments that will, over time, work.

Treating Pigmentation

At-Home Care

  1. Sun Protection
The sun’s harmful UV rays can cause pigmentation on the face. Therefore, it is essential to use sun protection measures like wearing hats, using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 50, and avoiding sun exposure during peak hours.  Although it’s winter, you still need to use SPF!
  2. Topical Products
We have some fantastic products to treat pigmentation.  The most important being vitamin C and vitamin A.  Vitamin C is a natural lightener and healer of free radical damage, while vitamin A will speed up cell turnover, shedding dead, pigmented cells.  Using a pigment serum will only increase your results, and we recommend the following:

    1. Aspect Dr Multi B.  Not only will vitamin B brighten the skin and boost your other products’ efficacy, but it also regulates pigment.
    2. Aspect Dr Complete Pigment Plus.  This serum can reduce pigment by as much as 25% in just one month, thanks to the inclusion of Tyrostat 11, a patented, chemical-free skin brightener from the North Canadian Prairies. NOW with an advanced formula that combines Tranexamic Acid and Tyrostat-11™ unveiling a more even, radiant-looking complexion.
    3. Osmosis Catalyst AC-11. This multifaceted serum lightens hyperpigmentation issues as it stimulates collagen and elastin, through its unique fusion of minerals, Vitamin C, and amino acids.
    4. PCAskin Pigment Gel Pro. This hydroquinone-free formula is powered by the proprietary SynerPro Complex, which uses multiple modes of action to effectively target discoloration for all skin types and tones.
    5. Osmosis MD Perfection. This has a duo pump to both treat pigmentation and reduce it forming in the future.

In-Clinic Treatments

  1. Custom Peel and Treating PigmentationLactic Peels
These peels are a non-invasive treatment option for pigmentation. They work by exfoliating the top layer of the skin, which leads to the removal of pigmented cells. Lactic peels can be customised according to the severity of the pigmentation, and they have minimal to no downtime.
  2. Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that involves the use of a device to remove the top layer of the skin. It can be effective in treating pigmentation caused by sun damage and ageing. However, it is not recommended for individuals with severe pigmentation.
  3. Microneedling
Microneedling is a procedure that involves the use of tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin, which can improve the appearance of pigmentation. Microneedling can be combined with topical lightening products for optimal results, and the added benefits of skin tightening make the discomfort well worth it.
  4. Cosmelan
This is one of the most effective pigment-removing treatments available.  Done in the clinic, the therapist applies ingredients to the skin that pull pigment to the surface, and shed it off, all the while containing pigment-blocking ingredients to prevent future pigment.

We have some fantastic options for treating pigmentation in the clinic, and there will be one right for you.
