Best Wrinkle Treatments and Prevention

Wrinkles are a natural part of ageing, frustratingly true. While our genetics can determine skin texture and structure. Wrinkles are more prevalent in those with more exposure to the sun and especially with light skin. Of course, there are other factors causing wrinkles. These are the basics; such as environmental pollutants, smoking and continuous facial expressions. Try smiling while you ready this – at least those wrinkles make you look happy in your later years… better than frown lines. Especially as we’re about to go through our Best Wrinkle Treatments, so you really don’t need to worry… it’s good for your skin to relax!

Not all of you are bothered by your wrinkles. In actual fact, many of you may love the privilege of growing older and your experience appearing on your face. But, if your wrinkles are getting you down then take action. Perhaps you even just want to ‘soften’ them a little, and there are more options available than ever to help.

Why do you get wrinkles?

Firstly, understanding the ageing process can be helpful in making sense of why you are seeing changes on our face. When you are young, the fat in your face is nice and evenly distributed with some fatty pockets that plump up the forehead, temples, cheeks and the areas around your eyes and mouth. As you age, those fatty pockets lose their volume and gravity takes hold, shifting the diminished fat downwards, creating sagging skin. While all of this is happening, you begin to store fat in other parts of your face, such as the jowls. Which is why, when you see elderly people, they seem to have lost their jawline, with loose skin around their necks.

As you age and the fat in your face begins to break down, you also lose collagen. This protein is your connective tissue and is what keeps your skin elastic and gives it a good structure. So, if you can imagine the fat as the pillars and the collagen as the ceiling, you can start to see how things begin to collapse as we age.

Types of Wrinkles

Deep wrinkles, such as the lines between your eyebrows, are caused by expression. When facial muscles are continually pulled on by making certain expressions, the muscle strengthens and then causes creasing in the skin. Often these will be your smile and frown lines… at least smile lines show you’ve had a wonderful attitude to life!

Finer lines can be caused by sun damage. The UV breaks down the surface of your skin that keeps it thick and supple. These lines can be treated with good results, but it’s easiest to start early. The Best Wrinkle Treatments will work fastest if started early, so when you see these fine lines – take action!

Smoking also creates facial lines as the chemicals in smoking accelerate the normal ageing process. It has been widely proven that smoking breaks down collagen very rapidly. If you’re serious about your beauty routine – don’t undo all your hard work!

To prevent fine lines, I have to bang on about sun safety again. I seem to do this in all our articles, but it really is the number one most important factor. Not just SPF though. Be sun smart with wide brimmed hats and sunnies (so you’re not squinting). The Best Wrinkle Treatments will be holistic, and prevention is easier than the cure!

Here are some tips for protecting your skin and minimising the appearance of wrinkles and the Best Wrinkle Treatments

Protect your skin from the sun

Use products that have built in sunscreen, like a moisturiser and makeup. When selecting SPF, choose those with a broad-spectrum sunscreen — meaning it blocks both UVA and UVB rays, like The Skin Care Clinics Dry Touch SPF 50.

Moisturise

Dry skin shrivels plump skin cells, which can lead to premature fine lines and wrinkles. Moisturising traps water in your skin, which helps mask tiny lines and creases. It may take a few weeks of regular use of the product before you notice any improvement in your skin.

Don’t smoke

Even if you’ve smoked for years or smoke heavily, you can still improve your skin tone and texture and prevent wrinkles by quitting smoking.

Eat a healthy diet

Lots of evidence supports raw veggies, fatty foods like avocados, nuts, salmon and tuna to be great for your skin, along with antioxidant rich foods like blueberries.
