Once again we’re raving about the sun… but this time it’s all about healing and strengthening! When we talk about Antioxidants in your skin care assisting you combat UV damage, the most important addition is Vitamin C! This is the reason it’s our favourite antioxidant for everyday use. It helps repair your skin while slowing the formation of UV damage. During Summer, a must have surely! We have loads of articles on the importance of Vitamin C already, but I’m sure you get the picture. Better yet, it stimulates collagen and elastin production which aka means slowing the wrinkles, double yes please! Are you curious what our Vitamin C Product Review will contain?
I’m sure by now you’re desperate to know which Vitamin C is the best product for you… you might even be wondering if you should be drinking or slathering orange juice on your skin. Sorry folks, it’s not the same thing. Oral Vitamin C has an inadequate gut/skin transport system and, as the body cannot make its own, we do need to eat it. But this also means that we MUST apply it, in the form of a serum to our skin – if we want it working in our skin. The body doesn’t store it very effectively either, which means we need to both eat it and apply it onto our skin.
Unfortunately Vitamin C is water-soluble, and finds it difficult to penetrate the skin. It’s also quite unstable and loses its “goodness” very quickly when exposed to air and light. To overcome these problems, Vitamin C serums need to be either in dark bottles or in a crystalline form which are then mixed with serums.
It is easy to see why topical Vitamin C is an essential part of your skin care regime. Not just so you look great, but so your skin is healthier! A healthier, thicker skin that shows fewer capillaries is smoother, more even-toned and simply feels and looks younger. If you look closely, you’ll find many of our products contain Vitamin C. Which are our favourites here in clinic though? What are they actually like? Since writing this article we’ve added a huge range of Vitamin C products developed with your differing skin and lifestyle needs – through Medik8. Meg’s Vitamin C Product Review
“I have been using Osmosis Skin Care only for the past 8 weeks, because I really wanted to focus on minimising my pores, so I decided to follow Osmosis’ protocol for enlarged pores, which includes Osmosis MD Catalyst AC-11. This is a combination of vitamin C, amino acids and minerals to increase DNA repair, elastin production and promote wound healing.
What it feels like:
Well, it’s sticky and a little thicker in consistency than a usual serum, so I mix it with Boost (a peptide and vitamin rich activating mist). This makes it absorb a lot better.
What it looks like:
It’s a dark orange/brown colour, which I absolutely love as it gives my skin a bit of colour and glow. If you have really pale skin, you need to make sure that you use the Boost spray to help blend it in.
What it does:
There is a wide array of benefits from using this Osmosis repair serum, including reduced visibility of capillaries and improved healing for wounds and scar tissue. Osmosis Catalyst AC-11 lightens hyperpigmentation issues as it stimulates collagen and elastin, through its unique fusion of minerals, Vitamin C, and amino acids. Skin cells are stimulated so that collagen production increases. This makes it easier to repair damaged DNA. Using this product will help improve your skin health and strength in the long-term. This product is one of the best age-reversal serums on the market today and it is suitable for use on all skin types. If you suffer from broken capillaries or skin tags, this product is a great addition to your skin care routine. It can also help with scarring, reducing damage and making fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation issues less visible.
Amazing!! So far I have noticed a significant difference in not only the size of my pores but also a big difference in pigmentation, especially the melasma that I have around my mouth, so I would not be without this product!! I love it!”
Julie’s Vitamin C Product Review
“The fight against ageing skin is constant, believe me I know, I’m forever brawling with it. I have learnt, however, you must have a Vitamin C in your skincare routine to strengthen your armour against it. There would be a big chink in that armour, I am certain, if taken out.
I have been getting my fix of Vitamin C from Osmosis MD Catalyst AC11 DNA Repair Serum which has been amazing, but as always with product reviews, I’m excited to try something different.
For this review I chose the Aspect Dr Active C Serum.
I decided to just apply to the back of my hand for a few days, so as not to confuse its effects with the rest of my skincare routine. I love the citrusy smell and it glides on beautifully. It seems to create a smoothing, glowy barrier on the skin, which I love. Mmm, have to use it on my face! I’m not sure if it’s just my imagination, but after only a couple of days, the texture of my skin seemed to be so much smoother to the touch. Surely not possible after only a couple of applications? Grrr.. another product I’ll want to keep using! Who’s idea were these product reviews??”
Phillipa’s Vitamin C Product Review
“Okay, I’ll fess up. It’s only since working here that I truly understood how important Vitamin C is in your daily skin care routine. This is crazy considering how paranoid I am about the sun and how badly damaged my skin is from years of sun exposure. I’ve seen more improvement in the past few years working here than I ever did before using a basic routine.
It’s such a simple addition to my daily skin care, and yet it’s really helped to heal my skin. I now use a whole range of extra products, but my first addition after working here was definitely Vitamin C. Rather than give you a lesson in it’s awesomeness, I’ll just leave this link instead, read it!!! So, what Vitamin C products have I tried. My favourite, hands down, is Osmosis MD Replenish. This is because it has lots of daily essentials in it combined. I can add just one product in the morning and know I’m doing the best by my skin. It smells great, has an orange appearance and yet is clear and light on the skin.
More recently I’ve tried Aspect Dr Active C.
This is also orange and has a stronger citrus smell to it. It’s great on, but I get tired of having to add the Active C and Multi B together rather than just using one product. It does keep the products fresh and active though, so I can understand the need to separate. I’m obviously lazy, hey.
I was super excited to score a CosMedix Pure C Mixing Crystals after the last photo shoot. I’ve wanted to try this since I first started here. The beauty of this product is that you can sprinkle the powder into your existing moisturiser or serum to give them an added boost. Because it’s a dry powder it goes a long way, you only use a light shake. It can be fiddly and I think I’ll still go back to Osmosis MD Replenish one day – but for now I’m loving shaking powder every morning, let’s face it, it’s fun!”
