Having sensitive or reactive skin is both a painful and frustrating problem. We completely understand that many of you will feel very wary of trying anything new on your skin – and yet are often desperate for your skin to improve. We have put together this sensitive skin care review so you can see what we have both tried and recommend. Helping you to find calmer skin that you can feel confident about.
Meg’s Sensitive Skin Care Review
“I don’t have sensitive skin, in fact, my skin is very hardy, kind of like an old leather bag, but I do know a lot on how to treat sensitive/reactive skin types. When I was working in the clinic, I would say 70 percent of my client base had sensitive skin – often rosacea, acne rosacea, eczema or just general inflammation of some description.
When treating sensitive skin, less is more, and treating the inflammation and hydration levels first is the key. We need to strengthen the skin’s protective barrier so that it can properly function, locking moisture in.
Using the correct products is paramount for this skin type. Chemically made skin care will cause further inflammation as will skin care containing artificial fragrances. Sometimes it is trial and error, but there are some go to products that we stock that we have great success with.
Today, I am going to talk about one kit that I recommend a lot:
Aspect Dr Soothing Kit
Of course it’s going to be fantastic, because it’s Aspect Dr! I love recommending kits for first time customers because it’s an affordable way to get everything you need and see results before wondering if you should fork out for the larger individual sizes. Here’s what it contains:
Mild Clean – a cleanser that will gently remove the day’s grime and makeup without stripping your skin. You can double cleanse with this one if you’ve had makeup on, but otherwise, one cleanse is enough.
Hyaluronic Serum – This serum is all about hydration. It holds 1000 times its weight in water by attracting water molecules, leaving your skin plump. If your skin is hydrated, it can heal.
Redless Serum – This is an oily serum designed to calm inflammation by using ingredients with anti-inflammatory properties, such as sea buckthorn oil. It will reduce redness and ease discomfort.
The kit does not contain a moisturiser or an SPF, so you may wish to add in a daily SPF and a night balm. For those I recommend:
Aspect Dr Hydra Shield – a daily moisture containing SPF
Aspect Dr Soothing Balm – A thick balm that you can slather on overnight to deeply hydrate and soothe irritated skin.
If you are someone with sensitive skin, give this a go. Maybe you’ve been using the wrong products and haven’t seen an improvement. You can keep your other products for later when your skin has been restored. If you know of someone suffering with sensitive skin, send them this article! It could change their life!”

Julie’s Sensitive Skin Care Review
“I have never really suffered from sensitive skin, although I did have that neck thingy a few weeks back which I talked about in the ‘calming product reviews’. At the time I thought it was a reaction to an individual product. I have since been made aware my skin was most likely still a little impaired, by a treatment I had done a few weeks beforehand. Likely it was reacting to probably everything I was putting on it. So I can really only go on the experience of post treatments when it comes to sensitive skin.
Maybe I’ll talk about my daughter’s skin, which has always been absolutely amazing, but last year it became very sensitive and she developed Rosacea. Her once perfect complexion was now covered in a fiery, spotty, redness. The solution? To use only the very mildest of products, look after gut health, avoid stress, healthy diet, lots of water etc. It was an horrendously stressful year last year for her, and not because of Covid, though that didn’t help, and obviously this stress exacerbated the Rosacea. But the good news is her skin is showing a massive improvement this year, and I’m sure she will be able to start introducing other products back into her current daily routine, shown below. She chose not to use any actives, and include an oil instead, but eventually she will introduce Aspect Dr Redless and Osmosis MD Rescue to her regime.
AM
Cleanse – Osmosis MD Cleanse Gentle Cleanser
Oil – Osmosis MD Nourish Organic Avocado Facial Oil
Moisturise/Sunblock – Cosmedix Hydrate+ Moisturiser with Zinc
PM
Cleanse – Osmosis MD Cleanse
Oil – Osmosis MD Nourish
Moisturise – Aspect Super Moisturising Complex
Isn’t it amazing how your psyche affects your skin? I find it quite fascinating that stress levels, and on the flip side, laughing, inducing those happy hormones, can literally change your skin’s appearance.
Here’s to 2021 and healthier skin, it’s been a much better year for the majority of us I think, and it’s showing on our faces!.
Enjoy!”

Phillipa’s Sensitive Skin Care Review
“I’m hooked on Societe at the moment, and it started with the Recover Kit. This kit just so happens to contain a few gems that I’ve come to LOVE.
I’ll start at the beginning – with Pure. This is a very gentle cleanser. It only has a slight lather and scent to it. It leaves me feeling clean without overly being scrubbed and is great when my skin is inflamed and sore.
Next I use the Calming Relief Balm. This is a thick and luxurious cream that leaves my red skin feeling calmer almost instantly. I use it both on my face and hands when they’re chapped and sore. This is followed by Transforming Skin Complex, a rich blend of antioxidants that my skin just laps up. I recommend this as a great night cream, as it leaves my skin feeling soft and supple.
Lastly, as you have likely read before, I really love Societe Prime and Defend. When you use products that are oil based, and have bad memories of teen acne, then being left with that slightly oiled feeling isn’t always nice. I’ve tried the Aspect Dr Redless in the past and really struggled with the thick oil feel, until I matched with this product. The Prime and Defend has a mattifying feel to it with a very slight tint. It also offers some protection from the sun with zinc without feeling greasy and slick. After wandering off for a while and letting Redless do it’s thing I found Prime and Defend gave me back that powder dry feeling without actually drying out my skin. It’s very similar to Osmosis MD Protect, but it’s easier to smooth onto your skin.
Now, when it comes to my mum and her acne rosacea, we’ve tried a few things.
She suffers from acne rosacea and absolutely HATES the oil based products or anything thick, as she’s often getting acne on her nose. I’ve tried getting her to use a variety of products, but she’s not a consistent skin care user. The best things that she’s LOVED using so far are Osmosis MD Cleanse, Societe Age Defying Boosting Pads and Aspect Dr Ultra-Light Hydration – with Aspect Stop Spot when acne appears.
Not sure if this helps any of you, but to be honest I’ve been impressed with almost everything I’ve tried – maybe all I really needed was decent skin care. Hmmm…. most likely!”

Meagan’s Sensitive Skin Care Review
“Clients with rosacea and impaired/reactive skin always want to calm and soothe, using gentle products only. This is important, but most importantly, the skin needs to be repaired. Vitamin A is a vital ingredient in doing this, as it restores correct cell function and DNA damage. Osmosis MD Calm is a gentle way to introduce a Vitamin A into your regime.
Another product I love for sensitive skin is Medik8 Hydr8 B5. The B5 promotes healing and is an anti-inflammatory, plus this product also contains Hyaluronic acid! Hyaluronic acid retains water in the skin so is amazing for dehydration.
Niacinamide, Vitamin B3 is also wonderful when used in combination with B5, Vitamin A and Hyaluronic. I recommend Aspect Dr Multi B Plus serum. Using this regime you will have all bases covered. B3 helps settle down the over reactive response which happens with Rosacea. It’s also wonderful for hydration. These products are an overall winner combination, I see a lot of clients with amazing results when using these serums.”
