This week we’re giving you our real life, honest oily skin care review. I think we can all agree that oily skin is not fun. The thought of adding skin care onto your already oily skin can be distasteful to say the least. The easily available supermarket products can often either feel like they’re sitting as a layer on your skin, or drying you out so much that in the end you produce even more oil. Eeeeek!
Did you know we have a whole range that is recommended for oily skin, but with so many products it can be hard to decide where to start. We have a great article on our top 8 tips to balanced skin that we highly recommend you check out.
While these are our honest reviews, we don’t all suffer from extreme oily skin. If you have a fav’ product with us, we’d love you to write a quick review – even if you’re “anonymous”. As real-life reviews from people are soooo helpful when deciding what to try!
Meg’s Oily Skin Care Review
“CosMedix Purity Balance is a toning mist that I use daily after cleansing with my CosMedix Purity Clean. It’s a toner that I recommend for those with slight to moderate oily skin, and those with acne prone skin.
What is it?
Purity Balance is a pore-refining toner that exfoliates and preps skin. It helps to absorb excess oil and impurities, leaving you with a clearer looking complexion.
What it does:
- Eliminates pore-clogging oil and impurities.
- Helps restore balance to the skin.
- Gently exfoliates to refine the look of pores.
- Cleans acne-prone skin.
Containing ingredients like salicylic and lactic acids, tea tree oil and niacinamide, this toner works to exfoliate and deeply clean pores without stripping the skin. When we wash our face, the pH of our skin can become unbalanced. This toner works to help restore balance to your skin while clearing away any excess oil and impurities for a shine-free finish that’s never dry or tight.
Spray onto a cotton pad and wipe over your entire face after cleansing.”

Julie’s Oily Skin Care Review
“I haven’t suffered oily skin since I was a teenager, so a million years ago before skincare products were invented. Of course the oiliness was in a very common area for that age, in the T-Zone. These days I will very occasionally get slightly oily around the sides of my nose, so I’ll work with that. This is a hard one, reviewing products that don’t particularly apply to your own skin’s needs. But I’ll give it a go.
I guess if I do feel like I’m a little slick in that area, I’ll double cleanse with one of the myriad of cleansers I have at the moment, which I am working feverishly to get down to one (I have a very clean face at the moment 😜).
Actually, one just came to mind writing this that I think would be awesome for oilier skin, and that is the Aspect Exfoliating Cleanser.
I remember I had bought it for my hubby to use but ended up using it all the time myself, and I really liked it. It’s a foaming cleanser, and really makes your face feel extra clean without getting that tight feeling afterwards. Another product I think would be great for oilier skin is Societe Vitamin D Complex. It’s such a lovely, lightweight moisturiser, and oily skin still needs hydration, even though it mightn’t feel like it! It tends to give you a kind of matte finish after application, as does their new Cover Shield with an SPF15. Actually we have loads of lovely lightweight oil-free moisturisers that are not only awesome for oily skin, but all skin types.
Happy shopping!”

Phillipa’s Oily Skin Care Review
“My experience with oily skin actually comes from using pigmentation treatment products. Unfortunately they are often oil based products, and I’m always left with that greasy feeling afterwards. Eventually it seeps in and doesn’t feel so bad, but I really don’t like it. I was often recommended Aspect Dr Redless, but just didn’t like the feel of it on my skin. That was before I tried Societe Prime and Defend… no, it’s not specifically for oily skin. But it has a mattifying feeling to it. When I use it post serums, it leaves me feeling both hydrated and dry to the touch, rather than greasy. Bonus, it has Zinc for sun protection and is a makeup primer, so has a slight tint to it, but not enough to look like you’re wearing foundation. We recently did a “feel test” with our sun protection products and we all agreed that Societe Prime and Defend felt the most
dry to touch after applying it!”Phillipa
Meagan’s Oily Skin Care Review
“The first thing a client with oily skin will ask for, is something to ‘strip’ and remove the shine and slip from their skin. This can sometimes be tricky to treat, as it’s first important to distinguish if their oiliness is caused from dehydration, or is a true oily skin. Sometimes, in a dehydrated skin, the skin will produce more oil to compensate for the lack of moisture. In this circumstance, you would actually need to hydrate the skin, which can feel quite weird at first.
With a true oily skin, I have seen the best results with this routine:
Cleanse: Aspect Dr Deep Clean
Serum: Aspect Dr Multi B
Moisturise: Aspect Dr Ultra light
The Deep Clean ensures the pores are clean and clear of all dirt and grime. The Multi B (Niacinamide) then helps to regulate oil production- but also hydrates at the same time, which is a win for those who fall in the dehydrated/oily category! Aspect Dr Ultra light ensures the hydration levels are taken care of, without being too heavy. It’s an oil free moisturiser and is packed for of the wonderful vitamins your skin needs for healthy function.”

Rosie’s Oily Skin Care Review
“Cleanser
Starting your skin care routine with a good cleanser is essential. A build up of dead skin cells, environmental debris and makeup that accumulates during the day, prevents other products from penetrating into the deeper layers of the skin and stimulating change. Osmosis MD Purify is one of my personal favourites. Natural enzymes such as papaya, kiwi fruit, pineapple and kumquat, cleanse, detoxify and start to gently exfoliate the skin, preparing it for the next step in your skincare routine.
Serum
Serums are used to target specific skin conditions and concerns and help to take your skincare routine to the next level. If you are going to get any serum for oily skin, I highly recommend Osmosis MD Clarify. It’s a power-house retinal serum that contains, antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used as a spot treatment for blemishes, or all over the skin to balance and regulate oil production and to retexture uneven skin tone. Packed full of antioxidants, this serum is an oily skin life saver!
Moisturiser with SPF
Oily skin still needs hydration as we can still be dehydrated but oily at the same time, this is where finding the right moisturiser can be tricky! I personally love using Aspect Sun Hydrating Face SPF 50 as it primes, moisturises and protects your skin. Paraben and benzophenone free, this moisturiser contains antioxidants to further protect from environmental damage and is lightweight enough to wear underneath your makeup. With any SPF, it needs to be applied 20 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied every 2 hours, or after swimming, sweating and towel drying.”
