Meg’s Mask Product Reviews
“So many masks, so little time! I am a mask hoarder, and I love every single one that I use, but this week, I want to spotlight my latest favourite that I use to clear out pores and refine my skin.
SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque
This is a purifying treatment containing mixed hydroxy acids, natural clays, and calming botanicals that decongest pores and minimises excess oil.
It feels lightweight, does not dry out your skin, and it smells lovely.
I apply it once a week to my forehead, nose and chin as these are where I have enlarged pores that are prone to congestion. I apply it to clean, slightly damp skin, and I leave it on for about 15 minutes, then remove with a warm towel.
Benefits of SkinCeuticals Clarifying Clay Masque
- A hydroxy acid blend gently exfoliates dead skin cells
- Natural earth clays, kaolin and bentonite, decongest pores, lift impurities, and help remove excess oils
- Aloe and chamomile calm and soothe the skin
This mask is perfect for those with congestion, oily skin and pores that are starting to get a little too big. ”

Phillipa’s Mask Product Reviews
“I’ve made an effort to try something new this review… yay! I typically have Osmosis MD Polish in my shower, and once a week leave this on for 5-10 minutes. Giving my skin that extra exfoliation so my serums work better and go further… but, I have reactive skin, so it goes quite red after I do this. It’s an enzyme mask, so rather than scrubbing my skin, it’s breaking the bonds between live and dead skin, so it can wash away easily. Now, I’ve said this is gentle, but it does still leave my skin a bit red afterwards. Usually I LOVE using sheet masks afterwards, as they calm the irritated reaction. I particularly like the Societe face and eye sheet masks… so, thinking that these are cooling and hydrating, I’ve chosen this next product to try.
Nothing like trying something NEW!
I’ve been trialling SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Mask this week. Both on it’s own and after a 15 minute polish (tried to get a red skin reaction first) – to see how it stacks up. The initial feeling is intensely cold, it probably didn’t help that I’m in Tassie in Winter in my cold bathroom to begin with. This is a clear/green tinged gel, that actually reminds me of putting on aloe vera, but with a thyme and cucumber smell. Now, I was prepared to feel soothed, but I really wasn’t expecting to feel smooth!! When I tried it on it’s own, my skin felt sooo soft and actually still felt cold a good 20 minutes afterwards. Used after the polish session, it took away my typical initial red reaction also. All in all I’m actually impressed. I’m not sure why I wasn’t expecting it to work, but there you go. It makes me feel very similar to the Societe face mask, but rather than a sheet mask slicked in cooling gel, it’s just the gel itself.
I still love my weekly staples…
Now, the other masks I’ve been using over winter are the PCA Hyaluronic Acid Overnight Mask and Osmosis Mango Mask with Immerse. The PCA mask is a really thick clear gel, and it glides on. It doesn’t have a sticky or greasy feel, more of a dry-touch but softer after-feel, so it would be good for all skin types. Even combination etc where you might not like that heavy feel of products on your skin. I use it after my evening moisturiser and it’s a great way to add in hyaluronic acid if it’s not in your moisturiser already, such as Resveratrol. Turning your day-wear moisturiser into an evening treat. In the past I’ve relied on the Osmosis Mango Mask with Immerse as my Winter “extra,” and I think the smell of this combo is still really nice as an overnight treat, but what’s life for, if not experimenting LOL.”
