Hyaluronic Acid Review – Our Favourites!

Is you skin starting to feel dehydrated and dry? Be it from hormonal changes, environmental damage or being inside with the heater on – parched skin feels terrible. With so many of us spending more time indoors due to Covid, it seems a great time to have a Hyaluronic Acid review. It’s a great way to increase the hydration of your skin without constantly lathering yourself in moisturiser.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a molecule found naturally in your skin and connective tissue (like around your joints). In our joints it provides cushioning and lubrication, while in our skin it provides hydration as it is a moisture binder, meaning that it will attach itself to your cells and water molecules, creating hydration and plumpness. In fact, Dermal Fillers, used to add volume to your face and lips, are made from Hyaluronic Acid

Here are the top benefits from using a HA

Ultimate Hydration

  • Hyaluronic Acid ReviewHA has the ability to improve the skin’s hydration levels. HA is water binding, meaning it draws water to it and helps the skin to hold onto water.
  • Applying a topical HA product will help pull moisture from the deeper layers of the skin to infuse the top layers with moisture. If you live in a humid area, it can also help pull water from the air into your skin. Good for me – today is 70% humidity!
  • HA products also help reduce trans-epidermal water loss, meaning that it helps keep water in your skin, rather than letting it evaporate out into the air.
  • Amazingly, hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water! What a little hero!

Smooths Your Skin

  • Although HA isn’t typically grouped in your anti-ageing category, it will help to smooth those fine lines by plumping your skin. Oftentimes, it is dehydration that causes fine lines in the first place – especially around the eye area.

Anti Inflammatory

  • While HA does not contain anti-inflammatory properties, if I am treating a client’s skin who has inflammation, the first thing that I will address is hydration. Conditions such as acne, rosacea, broken capillaries and even eczema, will all heal better if your skin is adequately hydrated. Many people with acne or oily skin feel as though their skin needs to be stripped, however, often the addition of a HA serum or a good moisturiser will remedy their issue. A good moisturiser will more than likely contain HA in it.
  • Using a HA after laser treatments, IPL, skin needling or peels is an excellent way to assist your skins natural healing response.

Meg’s Hyaluronic Acid Review

I am reviewing Societe Skin Hydration, which is my favourite HA serum that we have on our shelves. I love it for its creamy texture and the slight tingly sensation you get with the application.

Why Societe Skin Hydration Complex Is My Favourite:

  • Light and creamy means that it is loved by even those with oily skin as it does not contain oils
  • Added peptides and vitamin C for anti ageing, which makes it amazing for in between injectable treatments (if that’s what you do)
  • Non toxic, cruelty free ingredients
  • Vegan
  • Softly scented with natural ingredients that are not overpowering
  • Allows makeup to go on smoothly
  • Cheaper than other HA’s that we stock (it’s $99)
  • Perfect compliment to any other skin care brand, but best paired with Societes Intense Firming Complex which is collagen building. The two together offer enhanced results

Julie’s Hyaluronic Acid Review

Product Review Julie

“If you suffer from Winter dryness then you really have to have a little Hyaluronic in your life.

You wouldn’t believe the difference it can make.

I didn’t believe it initially, and was a little suspect when trying for the first time. How could this possibly hold up to a thousand times its weight in water? Sounded a bit airy fairy, but apparently very true. The first Hyaluronic I tried was the aptly named Aspect Dr Hyaluronic Serum , straight to the point with that name. It really is plumping material and makes your skin super duper soft. I only used it when feeling a little on the dry side and it instantly addressed any flakiness. Then I tried the Medik8 B5 Intense which I loved maybe a little more, but possibly only because it was a pretty colour 🙂 It did exactly the same thing, so overall I was very impressed with the whole Hyaluronic thing. Currently I’m back on the Aspect Dr Hyaluronic Serum bandwagon, adding a little to my other serums, maybe three or four times a week, and particularly at night if I’ve been sitting way too close to heat pumps etc during the day. Electric heating seems to suck out skin’s moisture level, and at 102, mine is pretty darn low, hold on, just had a birthday,103. Arghh!

So add a little Hyaluronic to your life, and get that moisture back in, and locked in.”

Phillipa’s Hyaluronic Acid Review

“I haven’t particularly meant to become addicted to Hyaluronic Acid (HA)… it happened by accident, honest! I’ve just been going over the products I’ve been using over the past year. As you may know, I’ve been trying new things. It turns out that quite a few have contained this lovely ingredient!

My latest addition has been the Mesoestetic HA Densimatrix. It actually contains several different forms of Hyaluronic Acid. This makes it super hydrating. It comes in a blue dropper bottle and is a clear liquid. I’m not a big fan of dropper bottles, but I’ve been adding a few drops each day when I add on my serums and my skin has been feeling great. I still find the Aspect Dr Hyaluronic Serum bottle is easier to use, but I really am enjoying this serum! I feel a bit guilty for only trying the sample sachet from Medik8 Hydr8 B5, as it also contains a few forms of HA, and practically runs out our door. It’s super popular for those in the know.

How many Hyaluronic Acid products can one girl own?

The Societe Ultimate Eyelift System that I’ve been using earlier this year also contains HA, and this rather explains why my eye area felt so soft. I also use Jane Iredale’s Liquid Minerals Foundation, that also contains HA, I love it because it glides on easily and leaves my skin feeling soft and natural. My evening moisturiser is Aspect Super Moisturising Complex, guess what I found in the ingredients? Yep, HA… Just like the Osmosis MD Quench that I’ve used before that. Gee, can you see the theme that I am. I really do have a lot of Hyaluronic Acid in my bathroom right now, and I didn’t even realise! The reality is though, that when you’re investing in quality skin care, it’s likely one step ahead of you and making sure you’re hydrated. As having dehydrated skin hinders it from functioning at its best…

So, pretty much from the moment I wake until I fall asleep I’m lathered in Hyaluronic Acid. If your moisturiser is designed for dehydrated skin, it might well contain HA already. I will admit I’m loving the feeling of adding the extra HA Densimatrix with my serums though. I really have felt much more hydrated that I normally do mid-Winter.”

Rosie’s Hyaluronic Acid Review

“I use Mesoestetic HA Densimatrix, which is a multi-molecular hyaluronic concentrate. This is my go-to hyaluronic acid that I use of a morning underneath my SPF moisturiser. This hyaluronic is more of a watery consistency and comes with a dropper which is super easy to use.  I use 3-4 drops after cleansing and massage into my skin.  I love that it dries completely without a tacky feeling on the skin. My skin feels and stays plump and hydrated throughout the day. It’s definitely one of my must-have products.”
