Eye Cream Product Review

Eye Creams and Serums

Ready to reconsider your eye care routine? Choosing the perfect products can feel overwhelming, we completely understand this. In our clinic we have over 15 different eye products! Eeeeek! Some are for use in the mornings to refresh tired, puffy and dark eyes, while others rejuvenate your fine lines and wrinkles. We have a few great articles we suggest you read to find out more about both ageing fine lines and dark circles and puffiness. We’re taking this one step further this week though, with this eye cream product review. Giving you a more personal insight into which options we use ourselves.

The skin around your eyes is thinner than the rest of your face, this allows your eyelids to blink and protect your eyes. Unfortunately, as you age, your skin looses its elasticity, and your eye area is often the first place you will notice wrinkles. So, what makes an eye cream (or serum) so special? Typically an eye cream is thicker and less likely to irritate your eyes, than your facial moisturiser. They’re often packed with more anti-ageing goodness to counteract this loss of elasticity also.

Meg’s Eye Cream Product Review

Meg Product Review

Oh, this one is a goodie, and it is also inexpensive, so I think that you are also going to love it.

Medik8 C Tetra Eye.

More of a serum than an eye cream, this little beauty is only $39, it lasts a long time, and the results are really good.  Here’s why I love it:

  • Vitamin C is known for its brightening abilities, and this is no exception.  I have noticed a brighter, more even tone around the eye area.  Small sun spots have pretty much gone!
  • The addition of vitamin E means that this eye serum also hydrates the area, and I have noticed less ‘shallowness’ under my eyes
  • It has a gorgeous, silky texture that absorbs quickly and goes really well under makeup
  • Vitamin C is collagen stimulating, so less fine lines too – although I do use a retinol eye cream at night that will also help with this
  • Perfect for those who are not old enough to see ageing in the eye area, but still want preventative protection and a brighter, more awake look
  • As with all Medik8 products, they are vegan, cruelty free and chemical free and they use recycled glass for the packaging!

This is one of my top 5 all time favourite products, and I have also bought it many times as gifts for friends.  Such a winner!

Julie’s Eye Cream Product Review

Julie Product Review

“You know if you go on to ancestry.com and type in raccoon my photo pops up? Just saying… Genetics can be a b***ch can’t they? I have honestly tried many, many eye creams/serums/gels, and there is a myriad we have in stock that are so wonderful in plumping out lines and lifting the eye area, but for me, nothing really lightens those dark circles. BUT if you can get an eye serum with a little pigment to act as a concealer, woohoo!!

I still think about a girl working in the deli at my local supermarket, never met her in my life, and while handing me some shaved ham, she said to me, like a concerned friend, “oh dear, you look tired”… What the hell? I thought I looked pretty good that day, so I proceeded to sulk for the rest of the night, and think about what eye product I would try next.

Medik8 Illuminating Eye Balm

I am now on my second tube of the beautiful Medik8 product Illuminating Eye Balm which I started using over twelve months ago, so obviously it lasts forever, as I use it EVERY morning without fail. It not only nourishes and hydrates, but really does illuminate and conceal darkness under the eyes. I rarely have to use a concealer, though others may beg to differ (girl in supermarket for example), unless I have been naughty and drunk way too much red wine the night before (wonder if I switch to white??… nah).

Anyway  Illuminating Eye Balm is my go-to eye product right now. But I do really, really want to try one of Meg’s favourites, the Colorescience Total Eye before it becomes unavailable to us in Australia. It too has the benefit of pigment to conceal, plus SPF!

Okay, I’m off to the supermarket with my Illuminating Eye Balm freshly applied 🙂 wish me luck!

Phillipa’s Eye Cream Product Review

Phillipa Product Review

“Okay, so I’ve discovered writing this that I’ve tried a few different eye care options. I’ve created dot points of why I’d use each so you can decide if any would work for you. Keeping in mind I haven’t tried all of the eye products we stock, and we have a few new ones also with Mesoestetic and SkinCeuticals. Not to mention the latest CosMedix Elite I-Complex, which sounds awesome, but I’m still finishing my current serum. While eye creams and serums can be expensive, they actually last AGES!!! I’m only bringing up the products I’ve used myself.

Simple and Low Cost

  • If you’re not a big skincare user and want something simple, using Aspect Phytostat 9 will give you a face moisturiser and eye cream in one. This is particularly great for the under 40 users who just want a “do everything” moisturiser and not into lots of products.
  • Medik8 C-Tetra Eye is a light weight serum with a strong citrus scent. It’s in a bottle with a “wand” that you use to apply it and is a serum rather than a cream. If you’re not after anything heavy/creamy or sticky then this is awesome. I’m pretty uncoordinated, so I’m always worried I’m going to tip out the liquid in the Medik8 bottles.
  • Colorescience Total Eye – this only has limited stock because it’s going out, but it’s actually awesome. We’re so sad it’s going! It’s both tinted and helps with moisture and anti-ageing. It was our great all-rounder… ah well. If you’re lucky there might still be one or two left.

Pregnant and Breastfeeding

  • While I was pregnant I used CosMedix Opti Crystals, which is opalescent and tacky like Eye Doctor. It’s really hydrating with firming and antioxidant protection. This is great when you’re worried about ageing, but can’t use a retinol based product. Once again, it’s shiny, so it’s more a night treatment rather than day moisture. I felt terrible in the mornings, so it worked better to have a night-care routine rather than the mornings when I wasn’t’ thinking clearly.

Anti-Ageing

  • Our most potent anti-ageing eye serum is CosMedix Elite Eye Doctor, as it’s a vitamin A designed for the delicate eye area. Like with all vitamin A products, it works best being used consistently over time. It’s a tacky and opalescent serum and you only need the smallest dot as it goes a long way. Because of the shine to it, you would be better using it at night. Thus, you might want a day cream also and tinted if you have dark circles.
  • If you’re after something you can feel working, then Societe Ultimate Eye Lift System is awesome. It has both a serum and cream that you can use day/night as you need. It has hyaluronic acid and peptides and works great for reducing fine lines and puffiness. It actually leaves your eye area tingling – so you know it’s working! One of the bottles has a roller-ball application, while the other is a pump action cream. I’ve been told that the Medik8 Eyelift Peptides has a similar tingle, but I haven’t used yet myself. I really loved this because you have both serum and cream so there’s no need for anything extra.

I’ve actually liked all of these eye products, and only change because I’m curious to try everything! Oh, and one last hint, the Societe Eye Peptide sheet mask is awesome and particularly great coming from the fridge.”
