Dry Skin – Aspect Dr Resveratrol

Dry Skin - Aspect Dr Resveratrol

Sometimes, no matter how much moisturiser you apply and how much water you drink, your skin just feels dry. So why is this, when you’re seemingly doing all the right things? Often it’s important to work out what’s causing the dry skin. That way you can take steps to reduce the occurrence and heal your skin. It doesn’t have to be difficult. Especially when there is a simple solution to Dry Skin – Aspect Dr Resveratrol! Perhaps this is why it’s our top selling product?

Dry Skin – Why Does It Occur

Firstly, what is dry skin and why do you get it?  It’s a very common skin condition caused by a lack of water in the epidermis (the most superficial part of our skin). While dry skin tends to affect everyone, older people are much more likely to suffer from dry skin. As you age, the natural oils which lubricate your skin diminish.

Environmental factors, such as humidity and temperature, have a profound effect on the amount of water retained within the skin. For example, cold, dry air when heated by air conditioning will produce dry skin by evaporating moisture on the skin. Frequent hand-washing and sanitising causes evaporation and dryness. Dry skin may also be a side effect of some medications or an underlying health issue.

The epidermis is composed of fat (lipid) and protein. The lipid portion of the epidermis along with epidermal proteins help prevent the skin from dehydrating. When there are deficient proteins and/or lipids, the skin moisture evaporates more easily. As skin becomes dry, it often becomes more sensitive and prone to irritation, such as rashes and skin breakdown. Once your skin is irritated, it can take soooo much longer to heal.

Dry Skin – Prevention

The good news is that prevention and treatment measures are very effective in the healing of dry skin. To prevent dry skin, start out by avoiding harsh soaps and chemicals. We recommend using a facial cleanser that is gentle on your skin and does not contain AHA’s, BHA’s and avoid harsh exfoliants. Try Aspect Dr Mild Clean

Drinking at least 3 litres of water will also help, along with maintaining a balanced diet including fatty fish such as salmon or tuna. If you’re not into fish, try eating some nuts like macadamias and fruit such as avocados. These all contain the right amount of healthy fats.

Topical treatment for dry skin is pretty simple and just requires regular application of a good nourishing face and body moisturiser that will not only restore moisture to your skin, but to restore the lipids and strengthen the skins’ barrier. Consider keeping a moisturiser next to your soap if you’re washing you hands often, like Aspect’s Hand Cream. If air-conditioning is drying your skin out, then keep a hydrating mist handy also. It’s easy to spritz during the day and will stop your skin from reaching a crisis point. Unfortunately if you’re medication is causing dehydration, you can’t avoid the issue. You can still alter your skin care though, to boost your hydration. We have a large range of moisturisers and they’re not greasy and won’t block your pores. They are simply designed for various skin types and issues. You can always ask our advice if you’re confused. That’s what we’re here for!
