Having sensitive skin can be frustrating for so many reasons. It also makes finding the right skin care very difficult. That’s why we’ve created this Calming Relief Product Review. So you can check out what we have noticed about these products and why we recommend them. The solution to irritated or red skin sometimes needs to involve more than just warm water on the skin. Often there are degrees of dehydration as well as irritation. On top of that having to use sun protection and concealers can make your cleansing options as vital as they are scary. So, where should you begin? Well, check out the products that we’ve reviewed, as well as the blog on our website. As we have a bundle of products that are especially designed for red, sore and inflamed skin!
Keep in mind irritated skin can come from more than natural sensitivity. It can be the result of skin treatments, environmental damage and even just shaving. We’ve looked at the broad range that we stock. Considering the items we always fall back on and recommend, when our clients or ourselves have an inflamed skin reaction.
Meg’s Calming Relief Product Review
“I have a lot of clients that fall into the sensitive skin category. What I have found is that most of them didn’t realise that they can use medical strength skin care without causing irritations.
Often they thought that QV or Sorbolene was their only option and were too frightened to try anything else.
But fear not!! We stock many products that not only calm and soothe inflammation but also aid in healing.
Societe Calming Relief Balm is one that I really like and I use it a lot in the clinic after treatments such as needling or peels. It really does offer instant relief and reduces redness.
Societe Calming Relief Balm
What is it?
A slightly thicker creme with little to no fragrance that contains ingredients such as Aloe, Shea Butter, Plant Oils and Sea Whip extract (the most important ingredient).
What it does:
This balm helps reduce the appearance of problematic skin conditions, including redness, Rosacea, itching & sensitive skin. It rescues sensitised skin with the calming effects of natural plants, antioxidants and vitamins. It helps to reduce inflammation, soothe irritated skin, and reduce dryness and flakiness and repair damaged skin.
Who can use it?
Anyone with sensitive skin including those with inflamed acne (it is non-comedogenic so won’t block pores). It is also great for after procedures like laser and IPL. I don’t have sensitive skin, but I often use it after a day out in the elements or just when my skin is feeling a little dry.
What it feels like:
Even though it is called a balm, it feels a little more like a creme and that is a good thing because often other balms leave you with a shiny, almost sticky appearance, but with Societe’s Calming Relief Balm, you can put makeup over the top and it looks normal. It rubs in well and feels super cool and calming when applied.
It is worth it?
It’s definitely worth it. A lot of my clients swear by it and use it as their day moisturiser and have all seen significant improvements in their skin.”

Julie’s Calming Relief Product Review
“I liken my skin to tough old boot leather, of course it doesn’t look like that… or does it? But I have never had reactive skin, therefore have never needed to use calming products as such. So when asked to review calming relief products, I was in a quandary. I then remembered, well over a year ago now, after sessions of IPL for broken capillaries, I was prescribed the former Aspect Post Laser Gel, now repackaged and reformulated as Aspect Dr. Soothing Gel. Boy did I need it! I’m sure if I hadn’t used it, I’d still be a blotchy hot mess, well not really, but at the time, straight after treatment, you wonder if it will last forever. No need for concern though, it almost immediately calmed my skin and took all that angry heat out of it.
So if you are going through any form of IPL or laser treatment, I would most definitely recommend Aspect Dr. Soothing Gel to soothe and relieve your stressed skin.
Apparently, if you have been really naughty, it’s great for the relief of sunburn, plus any other skin irritations. You can even pop it in the fridge and use it as a soothing mask before removing and applying normal serums and moisturiser. The great thing is it is perfectly safe for the most sensitive of skins, as well as tough old boots.”

“With shiny new products to play with, I figured this was the perfect time to try Medik8 Calmwise Discovery Kit. The best way to try the Medik8 skin calming options for red and irritated skin. I even stopped my other products a week prior to make sure my skin was super irritable… not the most pleasant idea I’ve had, but the results were worth it to see.
Firstly I’d like to praise their packaging. Crazy I know, after a week of minimal skin care (only cleansing with water and using SPF) I should have been too desperate to notice. It’s so clean, luxe and well considered though. I really felt like I was opening a new treat! Especially as Medik8 is so conscientious of their environmental impact and use recycled packaging as much as possible. Check out their website regarding their Eco Values.
Who can resist little dropper bottles? Really!Next I’ll describe the cleanser. As you know I gave their cleansers a whirl just a few weeks ago. Well the Calmwise Soothing Cleanser didn’t disappoint. In this cleanser the light foam feel and gentle cleansing properties are perfectly balanced. It has a very faint citrus smell and the light-as-air feeling was really nice on my red cheeks. The foam makes it easy to spread without pressure, so you’re not ‘scrubbing’ at your face. My skin felt clean without any irritation.
Next was the Calmwise Serum. This is a clear liquid in a cute glass bottle with a dropper. It has a slight oily, slick feel and initially sits on the top of my skin as a shiny layer. This slowly absorbs into my skin and leaves it feeling soft. This has a very faint botanical scent. After this weeks trial I really do like it, but it felt strange to add the drops to my fingers and transfer to my face. I’m used to applying serums to the back of my hand before putting on my face. I then discovered I could dropper it onto my cheeks, way more practical. I’m also often impatient to get back to the kids, so it was hard to wait the extra few minutes for it to “seep in” before applying moisturiser.
Lastly I’ll admit I was initially confused with the Calmwise Colour Corrector. I mistook it for just a colour concealer and was trying to work out when I was meant to add my moisturiser and SPF. Then, I checked the packaging properly and realised it was the moisturiser. This makes it super simple, but feels odd at night. It’s actually green, which helps conceal the red colour in the face. But to be honest, it’s a sheer coverage so it wouldn’t replace a concealer as such. After the Serum, it goes on really well. Almost making my face feel a bit mattified. Perhaps this is because of the slightly oily feeling of the serum? Anyway over the course of the week I certainly felt the difference in my skin. Clean and calm. I can understand the name, very appropriate. Lastly you add your normal SPF during the day.
Overall I was very impressed with this kit.
Both for presentation, quality and quantity it was very impressive. I thought I’d be getting samples that ran out after a week or so, but they’re actually very generous considering their size. You only need such a small amount, so it lasts so much longer than expected. If you’re looking for a solution for red and irritation skin, this is certainly worth having a try.”

Megan’s Calming Relief Product Review
“I’ve been using CosMedix Rescue Balm for around five years now, when I face extreme dryness and irritation in my skin. Due to pregnancy and hormonal changes I’ve dealt with extreme dehydration/dryness and an impaired barrier at times. My skin craves the intense hydration from this balm, as it will sometimes reach the inflamed and irritated point. I wear it to bed as a sleep mask due to the thick consistency.
The combination of Shea butter and Mandelic Acid work wonders to calm and soothe my angry skin. I’d go to bed with skin that felt dry, ageing and irritated, and wake to skin hydrated, soft and ready for my daily routine to be applied. Dehydrated skin has reduced elasticity, which makes us look and feel older, so anything I can do to add that moisture is a winner for me!”
