Using an eye cream is a great way of upping your skin care routine and getting even better results. But with so many to choose from, you can often give up, not really knowing which one is the right one for you.
We all love a good eye cream here at The Skin Care Clinic and one of the most common questions we get is ‘do I really need an eye cream?’ and ‘if so, which one?’.
The answer to the first part is yes! Eye creams are formulated specifically for the super thin area around your eyes. Using a moisturiser in this area can often cause puffiness and irritation as well as conditions like millia (those hard little white balls that seem to appear around the eyes).
This week, we are reviewing the eye creams and serums that we use, which will make choosing one for you a whole lot easier. So read on to hear which ones we love and why…
Meg’s Best Eye Cream Review
“I have been using the same eye products for years – Medik8 C-Tetra Eye in the morning and CosMedix Elite Eye Doctor in the evening. There was no real need for me to deviate from these two as they are, in my opinion, the best of the best.
But sometimes, you just feel like mixing it up a little, and so for the past few months, I’ve been using the SkinCeuticals AOX Eye Gel in the mornings only.
Firstly, I love the texture. It glides on smoothly and feels really good. It doesn’t have a strong smell, which is important for me as I’m super sensitive to anything with a strong scent.
The main thing I really want to achieve with an eye product is to fade the pigment under my eyes. I have some freckles really close to my lower lashes, so I can’t use pigment serums as they’re too strong for this area. The Medik8 C-Tetra Eye was working really well for this, as vitamin C is a natural lightener, but I can say that since using the SkinCeuticals AOX Eye Gel, I have noticed even better results.
This gel-serum has a combination of 5% pure vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid), 1% phloretin, and 0.5% ferulic acid as well as powerful botanical ingredients. Not only do these ingredients help with the pigmentation I have, they are also natural collagen stimulants, meaning that my crows feet are kept to a baby crow, not a big grandad crow.
So overall, I am really happy with the results I have seen with this eye gel and I’m going to continue to use it!”

Pip’s Best Eye Cream Review
“I decided this was the perfect excuse to experimenting for you, and it’s been a great experience. I’ve been using the combination of the two products. Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye and SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Eye Complex.
In the mornings I’ve been using A.G.E. Eye Complex. It’s so decadent using the two, but I’ve been getting noticeably puffy eyes with more fine lines this year, and really want to target it. A.G.E. Eye Complex is designed to target premature ageing as well as dispersing light to minimise the look of dark and tired eyes. I’ve seen noticeable results since the kids started school again and I’ve properly looked after my skin. It’s a thick cream and feels super-hydrating, just what I’m after. Thank heavens I’m back on track!
In the evenings I’ve been using the NEW Medik8 Crystal Retinal Ceramide Eye. This is a thick cream, and I use it a bit before bed. The awesome thing about this eye serum is that it contains vitamin A. That means the cell turnover around my eyes is being ‘sped up.’ It’s why the serum is so thick and why it’s a different formula to your typical vitamin A, because you don’t want this in your eyes, just around it. I’ve been using the level 6, as that’s what I use on my face. With this range, you can start gentle and work your way up the strengths. I’ve been using a vitamin A eye serum on and off for years (CosMedix Eye Doctor) and I always notice when I’ve stopped using it for too long. ”

Zoe’s Best Eye Cream Review
“C-Tetra Eye is formulated to brighten, smooth and hydrate the delicate eye area, all whilst preventing free radical damage. Our eyes are often the first area to show signs of ageing, this serum is the perfect addition for those first initial signs. Tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate is a lipid-soluble form of Vitamin C that penetrates the skin’s defensive lipid barrier with ease, allowing all the benefits of Vitamin C to be delivered deep into the skin. The Vitamin C in this formula also tackles environmental free radicals by pumping your skin with antioxidants, boosting the defenses of your skin cells. Vitamin E soothes and nourishes whilst revitalizing tired eyes, and also contains antioxidants, complementing Vitamin C perfectly!
Lightweight and fast absorbing, this serum sinks into the eye area without feeling like you’re wasting any of your product. After cleansing and applying any of my other serums, I use the spatula-style applicator to sweep a small amount of C-Tetra Eye across the under eye and brow bone.”

Nidia’s Best Eye Cream Review
“Eye creams can be tricky things. Finding a consistency you like and the results you’re after can be a mission. I’ve tried a few eye creams over the years, but I always come back to Osmosis MD Refresh. It’s hydrating and soft, the texture somewhere between a gel and a cream. Most importantly, it completely eliminates the puffiness under my eyes and the signs of ageing. What a relief!
This little gem is so effective because it contains peptides to smooth and protect the delicate skin around your eyes, almond oil to help with rejuvenation and proven actives to increase collagen and elastin for firmer skin. It also has a compound derived from olive oil to reduce any water loss from the skin, boost hydration and provide hypoallergenic properties. Lastly, niacinamide smooths fine lines, brightens and strengthens. On top of all this, the tube will last forever! Extra tip: store it in the fridge for a lovely cooling and soothing effect.”
