One of our favourite “special treats” in clinic is having a facial treatment, of course! This year has really highlighted to us the different ways to do this at home. Thus we have put together our Home Treatment Reviews to give you a few ideas, based on our experiences earlier this year. While it’s still not as relaxing or advanced as the in-clinic treatments, it’s a very good substitute when life doesn’t permit you getting out and about. We can’t talk you through doing your own Dermafrac treatment, but we can certainly take you through what we each do at home to re-create our favourite treatments!
Now, before we start, lets have a quick refresh on the basics.
Double Cleanse
Always cleanse (preferably double cleanse) as your first step. If your skin isn’t really clean, it won’t be able to achieve the same results.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is typically next. Using an AHA based exfoliation like Aspect Illuminating Polish, this once again leaves you with the fresh living skin cells, that are about to be completely spoiled, nourished and pampered!
Steam
After your face is squeaky clean it’s time to steam it. When your at home this can be as simple as hovering your face over a basin of hot water with a towel over your head. It allows the steam to open your pores and clean out any remaining impurities. It also increases blood flow which boosts the health of your skin, while softening it ready for treatments. If you’re not into going to the effort of a facial steam, consider enjoying a hot bath or shower (without using the hot water on your face directly!) before enjoying your mask. At least this way it will have the benefit of a mild steam.
Mask
You will find that applying a mask after steaming improves your results. Blackheads and congestion are easier to extract, and nutrients absorb easier into the remaining soft skin. Consider the right type of mask for your skins condition. Be it Acne, ageing, dehydration, oiliness etc. Follow the directions on the product and make sure you can cleansed it off afterwards properly.
Nutrients
Give your freshly cleaned and exposed skin a boost of extra Antioxidants, Vitamins, Growth Factors and Peptides. You can take it one step further by using the Osmosis Rose Quartz Roller & Gua Sha set at this point!
Moisturiser
Apply your favourite moisturisers and watch in wonder as you only need half the usual amount. Don’t forget your delicate eye area and your neck and decolletage.
If you’re a smart cookie you’ll do this later in the day so you don’t have to apply SPF. That way you can fall asleep still enjoying your squeaky clean and softened skin. So, what are our favourites. What do we use when we’re stuck at home and can’t enjoy our in-clinic treats? Find out below!
Meg’s Home Treatment Reviews
“This year I made a promise to myself that I would take more time to look after myself – so that I was the best possible person I could be for myself and my family. Aside from diet and exercise, I really wanted to work on my ‘zen’ levels. I am a pretty relaxed person, but if I get over tired, you’ll know about it!
So as part of my promise, I decided that every Friday night (the end of my working week) I would have a bath once our kids were in bed. Filling up the bath up with soothing bath salts and bringing in all my favourite skin treatments.
I often change up what I use on my face each week, but one thing I never change is the Aspect Fruit Enzyme Mask.
This is my all time favourite exfoliator. I love how satisfying it is when you can feel dead skin come away. It is super gentle on the skin, and for those who cannot use or do not like an abrasive exfoliator, this is perfect. Aside from the Fruit Enzyme Mask, I have been really enjoying the Medik8 Natural Clay Mask. Great for pulling out impurities, this refines the skin without drying. The mask stays damp and does not crust like a traditional clay mask.
But, my review this week is actually going to be about the relatively new sheet masks by CosMedix that I absolutely love.
Cosmedix Micro Defense Microbiome Sheet Mask
What is it:
Micro Defense Microbiome Sheet Mask is a quenching sheet mask that deeply hydrates the skin with a moisture-rich prebiotic serum. This helps strengthen your skin’s natural defense for a softer, smoother, more supple-looking complexion.
What it does:
- Reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Quenches dry skin with moisture-locking hydration.
- Aids in protection from environmental stressors.
- Helps reduce the look of redness and soothes skin.
What it feels like:
Unlike most sheet masks that feel like silicone, this one has more of a soft mesh fabric feel to it. It sticks very easily to the skin, and doesn’t slide off. So, if you’re busy, you can apply it and move around the house. It is still nice and cool though, which feels lovely if you have inflamed skin.
Are they worth it?
Absolutely! There is something rather indulgent about applying a sheet mask – especially while lying in the tub! These ones leave you feeling soft and plump while adding a lovely glow to your skin.
If these are something you would like to try, keep an eye out around the middle of November, as we might just be giving some away for my birthday!!”

Julie’s Home Treatment Reviews
“You would’ve had to practically put me in a straitjacket before going along to have a facial in the days before I began working at the clinic. I was one of those people who hated having their face touched. I think I’d had maybe two facials my whole life, both under duress. NOW, I love them! And the thing I like most is the facial massage, go figure!
It is totally not the same, trying to massage your own face, so recently I purchased the new Osmosis Rose Quartz Facial Roller & Gua Sha Set to try, and I have fallen in love. Although it still doesn’t compare to Meg’s incredible hands, it does feel good.
I have been trying to use it every day, and occasionally, for a special treat, I’ll set aside some time in the evening for a much more intensive ‘me time’ facial. I’ll start with a double cleanse, then apply one of everyone’s favourites at the moment, Aspect Illuminating Polish, it leaves your skin so silky soft, it’s amazing. Then I’ll indulge in a sheet mask. I really like the CosMedix Micro Defense Microbiome Sheet Mask.
After a little quiet lie down, thinking about things, (good things!), I’ll remove and then apply my serums, usually an A, B and C, a spritz of Osmosis MD Clear, massage those in and then, ahh, I love this product I have just added to my routine, it’s Osmosis MD Nourish, an avocado infused, organic oil. I’ll either use it by itself or add a little to my night time moisturiser. It creates the perfect amount of moisture on the skin, so when it comes to using the Facial Roller & Gua Sha Set, you don’t feel as though you’re over dragging your skin. I am slowly becoming accustomed to the Gua Sha stone and which way I’m supposed to hold it. That’s the only downside, I’m constantly taking my glasses on and off, checking directions, to see if I have it around the right way. It will sink in one day. You can really feel and see the blood flowing when you use it, so it must be doing something, right?
Anyhoo, that’s what I do, but I always look forward to a facial at the clinic, especially now Meg doesn’t have to use that awful straitjacket anymore 🙂”

Phillipa’s Home Treatment Reviews
“I’d love to imaging I look as classy as the girl pictured above while I pamper myself at home, but I’m pretty sure I’m more like a red splotchy and slimy mess. As some of you might remember, I was married right before the initial Covid lock-down. Thankfully one blessing was I’d stocked up on home treatments so I could have fun the night before my wedding. Well, having young kids at a new holiday home, meant they stayed up waaaay too late, and I didn’t have much of a pamper. Go figure! It did mean I had lots leftover to play, and thus write about my home treatment reviews!
While the idea of going all-out when I have a pamper session is awesome, having young kids just makes that impractical.
They have a sixth sense for when I have something planned after bedtime. Instead it means a quick cleanse in the shower before I pop on a sheet mask. We are on tank water, and don’t have a bath, so relaxing in the tub is no longer an option. Boohoo! That used to by my favourite time for a pamper. Instead it’s sitting on the couch watching zone-out TV or listening to music.
Every now and then I use exfoliating masks, like Pure Enzymes but I’ve found hydrating masks such as Aspect’s Probiotic Sleep Mask that I can leave on “a bit longer” (while I have my feet up) are waaaay more relaxing at home. Once I’m finally sitting down, the last thing I want to do is jump back up too quickly! If I’m super organised I’ll even have my nail polish handy to perfect my squeaky clean after glow image. I must say, I wish we’d had the Osmosis Roller & Gua Sha sets out earlier this year!!!
Yep, I’m pretty boring at home with my pamper sessions now, but hey, that’s what getting into the clinic is for! No kids, no mess and no noise.”

Megan’s Home Treatment Reviews
“My home routine is just as, if not more important to me than my in-clinic treatments. The treatments I have in clinic once a month feel more like an ‘add on’ to all the hard work I do at home. Don’t get me wrong, I still go through fazes with this. Sometimes it’s a pampering process in a hot bath, others it’s washing my face quickly and quietly to not dare wake the children :). One thing I always do is ensure I’ve used a cleanser and applied Vitamin A (Osmosis MD Calm) on really lazy nights I use Societe’ Age defying wipes on the couch instead of a cleanser – no water needed!
My favourite routine is cleanse with Purify cleanser, followed by Osmosis MD Polish, I then use Societe Sheet Mask and rub all the remaining gels into my face and neck to absorb once I take it off. Once dry I apply Osmosis MD Immerse and Enrich to sleep in. I wake to the most hydrated, plump and even skin, it’s the best feeling – and I’m going to do it tonight now :)”
